Twerchhau Summer Festival 2025

Daytime Program in the Gym
The doors of the Röntgengrundschule gym opened at 10:30, and soon the halls filled with enthusiastic fencers.
In the
lower hall, the focus was on
free fencing throughout the day, while the
upper hall offered two workshops for variety:
- 12:00–13:00: Captain Shortbeard’s Caribbean Adventures, Part 2 (Michael Hensel)
Participants embarked on an interactive pirate adventure. Two teams competed in fencing games against each other – complete with swashbuckling spirit, treasure hunts, and seafaring flair. - 14:30–15:00: The Art of Bullshido (Christian Münch)
A short talk introduced the world of “Bullshido” – questionable, sometimes absurd techniques from martial arts, both modern and historical. Afterwards, participants teamed up in pairs to invent their own dubious techniques and present them to the group.

Evening at the Brewery
After the athletic part of the day, everyone moved on to the nearby Berliner Berg Brewery. Cold drinks, good food, and plenty of lively conversations awaited. Each club member enjoyed two complimentary drinks and a vegan currywurst with fries, courtesy of the club.
A highlight of the evening was the
HEMA Pub Quiz:
In
eight categories with six questions each, everything revolved around HEMA, fencing, weapons, armor – and even a bit of pop culture. The atmosphere was cheerful, and small prizes added extra motivation and plenty of laughs.
Conclusion
Whether during free fencing, the creative workshops, or the evening get-together: the Summer Festival offered something for everyone. We warmly thank all participants – and especially the workshop leaders and organizers who made the event possible.
We’re already looking forward to next year!
