Twerchhau is now Berlin’s largest fencing club

25 percent of all fencers in Berlin practice historical fencing
Together with other clubs, HEMA, or Historical European Martial Arts, now accounts for around a quarter of all fencers in Berlin. With OSC, a traditional Olympic fencing club has already begun establishing a HEMA division. Other martial arts clubs such as Kenshinkai also have significant HEMA divisions. This is a development we explicitly welcome and actively support.
Growth also brings challenges
The strong growth of recent years has also brought challenges. The high demand for longsword training has led to a long waiting list and a noticeable lack of space in our hall. It has long been necessary to move longsword training to a larger venue. Despite intensive efforts, however, the search has proven difficult due to the lack of available hall time slots.
Around 200 members
However, longsword is not the only discipline at Twerchhau. Saber, messer, dagger, sword and buckler, as well as poleaxe are also very popular and offer alternative training options. Our newest course in rapier is also increasingly becoming a permanent part of our program.
