Berlin HEMA Cup 2026 – The largest HEMA tournament in Germany

The Berlin HEMA Cup 2026 is behind us and it has set new standards. With nearly 200 participants, around 80 volunteers and over 30 referees, it was the largest HEMA tournament ever held in Germany. Fencers from a total of 28 nations traveled to Berlin to compete in an intense international competition.

International stage for HEMA in Germany

What made this year’s Cup special was not only its size, but also its international diversity. The wide participation from many different countries showed the significance the event now holds within the global HEMA community. The Berlin HEMA Cup is increasingly becoming a fixed date in the international tournament calendar.

Organization and collaboration

The tournament was organized jointly by

OSC Fechten,

Schildwache Potsdam

and Twerchhau.

This close collaboration between multiple clubs was a key factor in the event’s success. The combination of experience, dedication, and community spirit made it possible to deliver an event at the highest level both organizationally and competitively.

DDHF ranking tournament

The Berlin HEMA Cup was also an official DDHF ranking tournament. This meant that the results had a direct impact on the national rankings, providing an additional incentive for many participants to give their best.

Livestream and reach

Another highlight was the livestream, which allowed viewers around the world to follow the tournament in real time.

Livestream Day 1

Livestream Day 2

The broadcast was professionally produced and featured live commentary, creating a significantly enhanced experience not only for the on site community but also for online viewers.

HEMA bazaar with manufacturers

Alongside the sporting action, a HEMA bazaar took place with a total of eight manufacturers present. For many participants, this provided the opportunity to view equipment on site, test it, and connect directly with manufacturers. The bazaar thus made an important contribution to networking within the community.

Fazit

The Berlin HEMA Cup 2026 was more than just a tournament. It was a meeting point for the international HEMA community, a platform for sporting exchange, and proof of the potential within the German scene.

Training Weapons and Protective Equipment. Suppliers

2. Oktober 2026
Below you will find links to manufacturers and retailers of weapons and simulators for Historical European Martial Arts. There are still many outdated models on the market that are only suitable for limited use. Before making a purchase, ask your instructors or fellow practitioners for advice, or check YouTube, Discord, and other sources. Individual disciplines often have their own specialised products and suppliers. The ones listed here are those that are relevant across multiple disciplines. The suppliers are listed here in two categories: Retailers: They purchase equipment from manufacturers and resell it. This often means higher prices for customers, but usually also significantly faster delivery and more reliable communication. Some retailers also offer their own product lines. Manufacturers: Buying directly from manufacturers often means lower prices and more options for customisation, but it can also involve significant delivery delays and less professional communication. Some manufacturers do not sell through retailers and offer their products exclusively through direct sales.

Twerchhau is now Berlin’s largest fencing club

1. April 2026
Historical fencing is no longer a niche. According to a document from the Berliner Fechterbund , Twerchhau has now become the largest fencing club in Berlin. The Berliner Fechterbund is the governing body that organizes fencing at the state level in Berlin. This means that, due to its strong growth, Twerchhau is now larger than any other Olympic fencing club in the city.

Twerchhau ist jetzt Berlins größter Fechtverein

1. April 2026

Archery Workshop

12. Oktober 2025
This is a two-hour beginner course in intuitive archery. Longbows and recurve bows made primarily from natural materials, such as wood, are used, without technical aids like sights, stabilizers, or release aids. In intuitive archery, unlike in sport archery, the number of scoring rings plays a minor role. Instead, the focus is on mental practice. You could say that one shoots from within, guided by instinct. This course offers a first impression of this approach and focuses on the following points: What does intuitive archery mean? Which bows are used? Stance and basic posture of the archer The individual phases of the shooting process in a flowing motion Body awareness, body tension, inner balance Equipment: Required: None; bows and arrows are provided. Recommended: If available, a close-fitting arm guard and thin gloves. Personal items: Since the course takes place outdoors, weatherproof and warm clothing is advisable. Sleeves should be as close-fitting as possible. We will meet at 10 a.m. on the grounds of the BLO-Studios at the shooting range, Kaskelstraße 55, 10317 Berlin. This is an old railway area located right next to the Nöldnerplatz S-Bahn station. After passing through the large green gate, continue straight ahead towards the wooded area and dry meadow.
