Fencing Weekend at Schloss Sallgast – July 2025

From July 18 to 20, 2025, the annual Fencing Weekend at Schloss Sallgast took place — an event that has now become a regular part of the club calendar. As in the previous year, the historic setting of the castle in Niederlausitz provided a striking backdrop for training, exchange, and shared experiences.

Diverse Program and Historic Atmosphere

Our friends Rusty and Mike from HEMA Finsterwalde once again set up an archery range. Under expert guidance, all participants had the chance to try out various bows and Max’s handcrafted crossbow — an activity that proved consistently popular throughout the weekend.

Another highlight was the axe and knife throwing workshop, once again led by Olaf from Finsterwalde and Heiko Rachut. Also back on the program was cut testing with sharp steel weapons: countless Tetra Paks and plastic bottles were cleanly sliced — with just as much enthusiasm as caution.

Buckler Private Lessons and Open Training

In addition, private lessons in buckler fencing were offered — and eagerly taken up. Beyond the organized sessions, the weekend provided plenty of opportunity for open training across all disciplines.



Equipped with parrying daggers and poleaxes, spontaneously formed teams played two intense rounds of “Capture the Flag!” in full fencing gear — pushing some participants to the edge of their physical limits.

Culture and Camaraderie

A guided tour of the castle with Mr. Tollmien from the local heritage association and a visit to the local history museum added a cultural dimension to the weekend. Food and fellowship were also well taken care of: a group dinner at the Schlossparkhotel and a relaxed barbecue on Saturday evening provided plenty of time to unwind and connect.


Participants stayed either in shared dorms within the castle, in tents in the castle park, or in rooms at the nearby Schlossparkhotel.

For those seeking a break from fencing, there were outings to the nearby Poleysee, and some took the opportunity to visit the impressive Bergheider See or the F60 visitor mine on Sunday — a massive relic of open-pit coal mining often referred to as the “horizontal Eiffel Tower.”

Macebell Absolute Beginner Vol. II – Foundations with Momentum

On June 29, 2025, the second workshop titled “Macebell Absolute Beginner Vol. II” took place. Led by Felix von Kirchbach from Kiba Berlin , participants spent three hours working with the macebell — a versatile training tool focused on strength, coordination, and mobility .

Berlin Buckler Bouts 2025

On the weekend of May 24–25, 2025, Berlin hosted the 23rd edition of the Berlin Buckler Bouts (BBB). This international gathering has long become a staple of the Historical European Martial Arts (HEMA) scene, attracting fencers from across Europe, North America, and beyond.

Berlin Messer Weekend BMW

The Berlin Messer Weekend 2025 (BMW 2025) was the first major event in Berlin dedicated exclusively to the Long Messer. In the European HEMA scene (Historical European Martial Arts), this weapon holds a special historical significance — and over the past five years, the international community of HEMA fencers has grown noticeably. With the Berlin Messer Weekend, a clear message was sent: the Long Messer deserves its own specialized event. Focus on the Messer The goal of the weekend was to bring together enough Messer fencers from this still relatively small niche to make an event possible that focused exclusively on this weapon type. All parts of the program — from the tournament to the workshops — were held in English to ensure the best possible experience for international participants.

Berlin HEMA Cup 2025

On the first weekend of March 2025, the very first Berlin HEMA Cup took place. Over 150 participants from 23 countries came to Berlin to compete across two days in longsword, saber, and rapier & dagger tournaments — each held in both Open and Women+ categories. The Berlin HEMA Cup was a joint project by Schildwache Potsdam , OSC Berlin , and Twerchhau Berlin. The goal was to organize a well-run tournament while also strengthening HEMA as a sport, hobby, and community in Berlin — and to make it even more appealing to newcomers and spectators. Neue Trainingsordnung für alle Disziplinen beschlossen

Der Vorstand von Twerchhau e.V. hat im Juli 2025 eine neue Trainingsordnung verabschiedet. Sie ersetzt die bisherige Fassung von Januar 2023 und trägt dem Umstand Rechnung, dass sich unser Verein in den letzten Jahren deutlich breiter aufgestellt hat – mit wachsenden Trainingsangeboten für unterschiedliche Waffengattungen neben dem Langschwert.

Fechtwochenende auf Schloss Sallgast – Juli 2025

Vom 18. bis 20. Juli 2025 fand das jährliche Fechtwochenende auf Schloss Sallgast statt – eine Veranstaltung, die mittlerweile fester Bestandteil des Vereinskalenders ist. Wie im Vorjahr bot das historische Ambiente des Schlosses in der Niederlausitz eine eindrucksvolle Kulisse für Training, Austausch und gemeinsames Erleben.

Macebell Absolute Beginner Vol. II – Grundlagen mit Schwung

Am 29. Juni 2025 fand der zweite Workshop unter dem Titel „Macebell Absolute Beginner Vol. II“ statt. Unter der Anleitung von Felix von Kirchbach von Kiba Berlin widmeten sich die Teilnehmenden drei Stunden lang der Arbeit mit der Macebell – einem vielseitigen Trainingsgerät mit Schwerpunkt auf Kraft, Koordination und Mobilität.

Das Berlin Messer Weekend 2025 (BMW 2025) war das erste große Event in Berlin, das sich ausschließlich dem Langen Messer widmete. In der europäischen HEMA-Szene (Historical European Martial Arts) hat diese Waffe eine besondere historische Bedeutung – und in den letzten fünf Jahren ist die internationale Gemeinschaft der HEMA-Fechter merklich gewachsen. Mit dem Berlin Messer Weekend setzte man ein klares Zeichen: Das Lange Messer verdient ein eigenes, spezialisiertes Event. Fokus auf das Messer Ziel des Wochenendes war es, genug Messerfechter aus der noch relativ kleinen Nische zusammenzubringen, um ein Event zu ermöglichen, das sich ausschließlich diesem Waffentyp widmet. Sämtliche Programmpunkte – vom Turnier bis zu den Workshops – fanden daher auch in englischer Sprache statt, um internationale Teilnehmende bestmöglich einzubinden.
